ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Owenton, KY – 2,600 s.f.

Commonwealth Credit Union collaborated with K4 Architecture + Design to create a new branch in Owenton, KY. The primary goal of this project was to utilize current brand standards while providing a more convenient location for both existing and new members. The intent was to embody the Commonwealth Credit Union established brand identity, ensuring ease of access and functionality for members.

The project faced several design challenges, including the need to construct large retaining walls to elevate the building site, adapting a modified prototype for steel construction, and navigating post-COVID supply chain issues that affected materials and timelines. Unlike other locations, this branch used a steel-framed flat roof version of the prototype, resulting in a smaller footprint of 2,600 square feet compared to the original 3,500 square feet. Additionally, a new teal sunshade was introduced, marking a distinctive feature for this location.

The interior design adhered to brand elements consistent with other Commonwealth branches, ensuring brand consistency and a cohesive aesthetic within the network. A unique aspect of the exterior is the CCU-branded teal aluminum sunshade over the entry, which spans over 30 feet in length and 17 feet in height, providing a striking visual element.

The design of the branch also improved efficiency and operations. The more efficient floor plan, tailored to the smaller footprint, optimizes space usage and enhances member interaction. The use of low-maintenance materials ensures longevity and reduces upkeep costs, while cutting-edge technology and equipment enhance operational efficiency and member services.
