ABOUT THIS PROJECT

South Bend, IN – 3,923 s.f.

K4 was proud to partner on a new one-story, 3,930 s.f. branch for First State Bank in South Bend, IN. The design challenge was using architectural features to create the appearance of a grand two-story facility to blend with the fabric of the surrounding historic community. With easy access for walk-in customers along the main street and discreet drive-thru convenience at the rear of the building, this new branch strives to be an important building block in the ongoing revitalization of the surrounding mixed used neighborhood near Notre Dame University.

The branch features include a grand 22 foot tall lobby rotunda filled with natural light from clerestory windows, a waiting area with two tech bar learning stations, three retail offices, four loan offices, four workstations for support staff, an all-glass conference room that seats eight, a staff breakroom with direct access to an outdoor patio, and two drive-thru lanes with remote video teller banking.

The implementation of specific design elements included large storefront windows with integrated awnings, standing seam metal roofing, Indiana limestone, and traditional brick. These elements combined with a classical entrance flanked by two large round windows, and a raised central roof, were intended to give the building a grander scale.
