ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Sault Ste. Marie, MI – 6,220 s.f.

For nearly more than a century, Central Savings Bank has served the quaint community of Sault Ste. Marie, at the northeastern tip of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Central Savings Bank was looking to refresh its first-floor customer lobby to better meet the needs of its customers and incorporate new technology to maximize staff productivity.

The redesign was needed because original lobby did not allow tellers to engage with customers and did not convey the bank’s heritage in serving the community. The bank had to incorporate drive through teller lanes to keep customers out of the region’s typical snowy, cold winter weather. Central Savings also wanted to adopt new technology including universal bankers and a cash recycler to maximize the efficiency of its staff.

The new lobby layout offers better flow and a more pleasant work environment for tellers. Aesthetically, the design incorporates dark wood tones offset with clean metallic finishes for a contemporary look. The lobby also features a community history timeline wall, commemorating milestones in the region’s history.

Outside, K4 designed the space and worked with vendors to relocate the vacuum tubes that serve those lanes, allowing tellers to serve drive-through and lobby customers concurrently.

Both bank employees and the community love the new design, finding it easier to work and do business at the location.

Client Testimonial

“The K4 team was great to work with. They deal with Bank remodels on a regular basis, so they were able to give us many current trends to choose from when deciding how we wanted our new lobby to look and operate.”
