ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Independence, KY –  27,780 s.f.

St. Cecilia Catholic Church enlisted the help of K4 Architecture + Design to create a three story parish activity center and preschool/daycare for the Parish. The lower level consists of four preschool classrooms, an additional extra classroom, youth ministries, restrooms, and media center/library. The second and third levels comprise of a two-story gymnasium that connects the second and third levels; with an upper-level walking track around the entire gym. The second floor includes the gymnasium floor level, locker rooms, concessions area, restrooms, and a connector to the school. The third floor features the walking track, a conference room, one additional classroom (music room), exercise room, and restrooms.

The design challenge was integrating the building and connecting it to the existing site due to the slope 20 feet short in distance and the need to fit specific accommodations in the space. The K4 team worked with the Parrish building committee to make selections of color palette and materials. The design met the expectations of the Parrish, and we were able to facilitate all their needs.

Special design elements included two marble reliefs on the front of the building that were specially made in Italy and seamlessly incorporated into the exterior facade. Also, two stained glass windows were repurposed from the old church and integrated into the new activity center.
